By Bob Crew ISBN: 9781847471178 Published: 2007 Pages: 170 Key Themes: poetry Description This book of poetry provides us with a wide-ranging picture of mental health in the UK and the contribution that poetry can make to a better understanding of our mental condition and the reasons for it. The eighteen poems in this collection are written in remembrance of the late Roy Crew, who suffered from schizophrenia in Britain from the 1940s until the 1960s. They are written by his brother, Bob Crew, who is a published poet who visited Roy regularly and observed him carefully throughout his long illness. They tell the story of Roy's illness and ultimate survival and they are the kind of poems that Roy could not have written for himself because his condition was too severe and he had no apparent talent for poetry. About the Author Bob Crew is a published author and poet whose others books - Sea Poems, Gurkhas at War and The Beheading & other True Stories - are currently in the bookstalls and on Amazon.

The Key In The Lock The locked mind can only be unlocked by a very special key from the world of imagery that needs no commentary or explanation to set thoughts free. The locked mind can only unwind and become gradually unblocked after the key that was thrown away has been retrieved from yesterday when imprisonment held sway. The effortless insertion of

Mud Flower: Surviving Schizophrenia and Suicide Through Art shows the perspective of a person who has a serious mental illness, who survives extreme treatments, who both family and the health system have given up on, but who defies all expectations and common beliefs of what is possible. Along the way, the author describes the role of art in her survival, grappling with how the life force can be either nurtured or destroyed by elements in our environment, such as nature, beauty, and art versus dehumanization and coercion.

Schizophrenia in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

Man has long searched for the cause and meaning of mental illness. This book, which is a combination of the author s earlier books (Volumes One and Two) continues in his attempt to answer those questions. The author/compiler has spent 47 years investigating these problems and his conclusion is that severe unconscious bisexual conflict and confusion lie at the root of all mental illness, as difficult to comprehend as this idea may be. The book itself consists of 790 quotations, from a variety of sources, all of which point to the unshakable truth of this hypothesis. This is a fixed law of nature, unassailable and constantly operative in every case. No other species but man is afflicted with mental illness because no other species has either the intellectual power to repress their sexual feelings nor the motivation to do so. The disease we call schizophrenia is but an arbitrary name, which is used to designate the end-stage of a process beginning with a slight neurosis. The more severe the bisexual conflict and confusion in the individual, the more severe the degree of the mental illness which is experienced. Several other investigators in the past have reached this same conclusion, but unfortunately their wisdom went largely unheeded. Hopefully this book will remedy that ill-advised neglect."

A New York Times Best Seller If you could read my mind, you wouldn't be smiling. Samantha McAllister looks just like the rest of the popular girls in her junior class. But hidden beneath the straightened hair and expertly applied makeup is a secret that her friends would never understand: Sam has Purely-Obsessional OCD and is consumed by a stream of dark thoughts and worries that she can't turn off. Second-guessing every move, thought, and word makes daily life a struggle, and it doesn't help that her lifelong friends will turn toxic at the first sign of a wrong outfit, wrong lunch, or wrong crush. Yet Sam knows she'd be truly crazy to leave the protection of the most popular girls in school. So when Sam meets Caroline, she has to keep her new friend with a refreshing sense of humor and no style a secret, right up there with Sam's weekly visits to her psychiatrist. Caroline introduces Sam to Poet's Corner, a hidden room and a tight-knit group of misfits who have been ignored by the school at large. Sam is drawn to them immediately, especially a guitar-playing guy with a talent for verse, and starts to discover a whole new side of herself. Slowly, she begins to feel more "normal" than she ever has as part of the popular crowd . . . until she finds a new reason to question her sanity and all she holds dear. "Clueless meets Dead Poets Society with a whopping final twist." -Kirkus Reviews "This book is highly recommended-readers will connect with Sam, relating to her anxiety about her peers, and root for her throughout the book." -VOYA "A thoughtful romance with a strong message about self-acceptance, [this] sensitive novel boasts strong characterizations and conflicts that many teens will relate to. Eminently readable." -Booklist "A brilliant and moving story about finding your voice, the power of words, and true friendship. I couldn't put it down?" -Elizabeth Eulberg, Author of The Lonely Hearts Club "Brilliant, brave, and beautiful." -Kathleen Caldwell, A Great Good

MIND ESTRANGED tells the story of Bethany's life, from her years as a promising university student through her gradual descent into schizophrenia, and unexpected, full recovery. While slowly losing her sanity, she traveled the world. She returned to the U.S. unable to work or study, and soon found herself homeless, delusional, and controlled by voices that talked to her and gave her orders in her mind. Bethany's memoir enables the reader to enter into the mind of a person with schizophrenia, homeless and roaming the streets. While living in the shadows of society, her illness drove her to refuse all contact with her family and friends, and eventually led to her arrest and hospitalization. Against all odds, she recovered from schizophrenia, returned to college, and graduated with honors. Henry A. Nasrallah, MD, a professor of psychiatry who treated Bethany, writes, "Bethany is living proof that recovery from schizophrenia is possible with good medical care, solid family support and the courage to keep fighting the tormenting voices that ordered her every move and controlled her every thought. MIND ESTRANGED is also a powerful message of encouragement and support for any human being facing an overwhelming challenge at some point in life." MIND ESTRANGED is the companion book to FLIGHT FROM REASON: A Mother's Story of Schizophrenia, Recovery and Hope, by Karen S. Yeiser. FLIGHT FROM REASON parallels the timeline of MIND ESTRANGED.

Poetry of My Life in PDF, EPUB, Tuebl, Mobi and Kindle:

Poetry of my Life is a book that moves through life and all its ups and downs. The poetic words written on the pages will move you to chuckle and at times to tears. The stories behind the poems give a sense of where the author's head was during the times that moved her to scribe words on a page. Many of the poems were born out of adversities, in the middle of the night words that beg to be heard. The poems stretch from lust, love and awe of life. You'll follow through tragic events of a child to adventures of an adult in a rhythmic poetic pace. The stories are moving with a quick pace through stages of life enhanced by poetry. The accompanied stories refrain from over shadowing the poem and are only meant to give a quick overview. From childhood friend to lover to deep relationships the poems give perspective and sometimes abstract to the depth of the trials. Allow the poems to entertain your soul and take you on a journey from yourself. The love, lust and sorrow are vehicles to make you feel deep and then deeper. The more playful poems are yet to make you feel as well.
